Mr. JB

Mr. JB is our resident miniature Shetland pony who has lived with us since 2012. He arrived in the UK as a yearling with about 100 other Shetlands as part of a rescue effort. We believe he was born circa 2010 or 2011--but as he's a bit vain, has yet to confirm the exact date. (That, or he feels he should be celebrated EVERY day which would surprise no one who's met this full-of-personality, cheeky lad!)

Jubbers is not quite as bossy and cheeky as a lot of Shetlands, although he doesn't lack for self-assurance. Always game for holiday dress-up, he's elicited many a "Friesian Smile" while accompanying his Friesian friends on parades through the village. He LOVES getting to spend a night with our 'Stable Stays' visitors, especially when they are happy for him to join them on their side of the accommodation. (As this is something his Friesian brothers and sisters can't do, it secretly makes him swell with Shetland pride!) Did we mention his 2021 acting debut in the Netflix show, "Jack Whitehall--Travels With My Father"? Sorry, he can't help but bring it up--another point of pride.

Most of JB's time is spent mooching about the yard or in nearby turn-out with our Friesian boys. (They let him get away with a bit more than The Girls do). His soft side unavoidably shines through in the dear friendship he shares with Hoitze. The pair, known affectionately as "Little and Large", are a sight to behold, racing pell-mell around the arena on Open Days when given the chance. Occasionally JB lets Hannes in on the fun as well.

Like a lot of Shetlands, with eyes larger than their tummies, Mr. JB can be prone to laminitis, so we do have to watch what he eats, especially when the rich grass starts to appear. When required, he takes a grazing muzzle all in stride (although he does wish it came in his signature orange color).

You can following the delightfully cheeky antics of Mr. JB on our YouTube channel or social media pages.
